For over two decades, I have interviewed and observed thousands of leaders and combined that with the most recent and relevant research available in the areas of leadership, emotional intelligence, influence, negotiation, personal wellbeing, coaching, and neuroplasticity among others.

From an early age I always had a desire to lead but not always for the right reasons.

In my first job out of college, I was selected to enter an intense management training program with a large retailer. While I learned many technical aspects of leading, I quickly realized that it was the social and emotional skills of leadership that I failed to appreciate and develop. It wasn’t until half of my team quit over my first six months as a newly minted manager that I realized that to be an effective leader was not about your title.

From that moment on, I became a learner of leadership and am proud to say that I remain one today, as well.

My passion and obsession with leading others has led me to explore many different disciplines that impact one’s ability to lead. They include, but are not limited to, research in emotional intelligence, influence, personality, habit formation, mindfulness, conflict management, coaching, performance management, neuroplasticity, and goal setting.

While I have held positions in management, leadership and training, I believe the most impactful position I held was that of a follower, meaning that I reported to someone but had no one that reported to me. This was the last outside position I would hold and was the inspiration to starting Emery Leadership Group. During this time, I saw the direct impact of how poor behaviors from a person in authority could create disengagement, stress and disfunction on a team. I witnessed the incredible waste of human talent as a result of a leader's bad behaviors.

I knew it was my mission to take all the experiences and knowledge I had acquired to help individuals, teams and organizations identify and develop the skills and behaviors so they could Rise Above Their Best. That is the mission of The C.A.B.L.E.S. Leadership Academy

THESE ARE THE MODULES

MODULE 1: 

Building resilience and wellbeing – the need to lead from the inside out.

This module focuses on research in the areas of mindfulness, exercise, altruism, gratitude and self-efficacy. Participants are provided with a POWER Journal. It outlines five activities that the participants can utilize to increases their wellbeing and resilience.  

MODULE 2: 

What is C.A.B.L.E.S. and why does it work?

This series of modules exposes participants to Patrick Lencioni’s book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team and aligns them with CABLES (Congruence, Appreciation, Belongingness, Listening, Empathy and Specifics).  

 

MODULE 3: 

Why personality is important. (Includes DiSC for Leaders assessment) 

Everything DiSC Work of Leaders® is a classroom/virtual training and personalized learning experience that connects unique leadership styles to real-world demands.

 

MODULE 4: 

Emotional Intelligence for the Workplace

Leaders in business looking to improve their organization’s performance can do so by improving their emotional intelligence: that is, their skill at identifying, understanding and influencing emotion. There is a direct link between the way people feel and the way they perform at work. This is one of the most robust and consistent findings in organizational research.

MODULE 5: 

How to Make Conflict Productive

This series focuses on helping participants identify well researched strategies for identifying and navigating conflict toward a productive outcome. Participants will be exposed to different conflict-handling strategies and participate in scenarios that explore when each style may be appropriate.

 

MODULE 6: 

Managing Performance and Setting Goals

This series draws on promising research in the areas of goal setting and habit formation.  Leaders will be exposed to a simple, three step process, S.E.T., for setting goals as well as an outline for how to manage employee development with less effort.

 

MODULE 7: 

Understanding Influence, Irrationality, and Resistance

This series helps leaders identify the skills needed to gain agreement while also identifying five areas of resistance that leaders must understand if they want to lead more effectively.  Leaders will be exposed to work by researchers like Dan Kahneman and Robert Cialdini to gain a greater understanding of how influence and irrationality work together.

MODULE 8: 

How to Coach for Growth

Coaching an employee can be a difficult transition for the leader that is accustomed to mentoring or instructing employees. 

This series helps leaders identify and develop well researched coaching strategies to maximize their individual and organizational impact.  Patrick Veroneau is a certified iPEC coach.
